Inspired by the Brothers Grimm Tales, Princess Aurora (Saoirse Ronan) is cursed by the wicked witch Maleficent (Lena Headey), who proclaims that before dusk on Aurora’s sixteenth nameday, she will die by pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel. To stop this, King Stefan (Pierfrancesco Favino) has his daughter put into hiding under the protection of three trusted ladies of their court. They are called Fauna (Penelope Wilton), Merryweather (Eve Myles) and Flora (Lesley Nicol). This is a tale of dark magic and history set in the period setting of the medieval France in Avignon during the 1400s.
