Aladdin (Suraj Sharma) is a poor homeless boy who spends his days stealing food from the markets of Agra in India. His adventure starts when he meets a young girl who happens to be Princess Jasmine (Sibylla Deen). She is being forced into marrying the good-looking yet arrogant and ostentatious Prince Achmed (Theo James). Aladdin’s life as an urchin changes when he finds a magical lamp in the Cave Of Wonders.
In this lamp he finds a genie who isn’t larger than life and cartoonish but he looks like you and me. His name is Jalal (Chiwetel Ejiofor). But much alike the Disney animated genie, he wants his freedom. What they don’t know, is that the evil Jafar (Irrfan Khan) plans to take Jasmine for himself whilst trapping Jalal back in the lamp (as his slave), along with Aladdin and Sultan (Naveen Andrews). Filled with history, mystery, romance and mythology, my version of Aladdin will be darker, without the musical numbers and in the live action form.
