Obara Sand is the bastard daughter of Prince Oberyn Martell and an Oldtown whore but is also the eldest of the renowned Sand Snakes. She is a tetchy, hot-tempered woman who wants vengence for her father through warfare on the Lannisters. She thinks herself to be a warrior.

Her weapons of choice are a spear, a whip, and a round shield of steel and copper. She has a fondness of wine and is a bold, sure rider who uses spurs, using them so often that the animal’s flesh is punctured and is bloody. She is a big-boned woman who is nearly thirty years of age with long legs and close-set eyes with brown hair.
When Oberyn came to claim her, her mother did not want to give her up so he threw a spear down at her mother’s feet and slapped her mother. Oberyn asked Obara which weapon did she want out of the spear or the tears. Obara chose the spear. Her mother drank herself to death in a short time after Obara left for Sunspear with her father.
A Feast For Crows: She meets Prince Doran at the Water Gardens, demanding retribution for her father. Doran says he will think about it. After more visits by the other Sand Snakes, Prince Doran seeks the arrest of all of them. They are detained in the Spear Tower in Sunspear.
A Dance With Dragons: They are released and are at the feast when Ser Balon Swann presents the head of The Mountain to Prince Doran. When a toast is raised by Ricasso to ‘King Tommen Baratheon’, she has her wine cup filled before pouring it onto the floor and leaving. Later on, she is talking about Gregor Clegane’s death with the other Sand Snakes, Areo Hotah, Arianne Martell, Ellaria Sand, and Prince Doran. She says that his death, “Is a start” and pushes for war against House Lannister, causing Ellaria to intervene.
“Oberyn wanted vengeance for Elia. Now the three of you want vengeance for him. I have four daughters, I remind you. Your sisters. My Elia is fourteen, almost a woman. Obella is twelve, on the brink of maidenhood. They worship you, as Dorea and Loreza worship them. If you should die, must El and Obella seek vengeance for you, then Dorea and Loree for them? Is that how it goes, round and round forever? I ask again, where does it end? I saw your father die. Here is his killer. Can I take a skull to bed with me, to give me comfort in the night? Doran has Obara take Ser Balon Swann to High Hermitage so he can hunt and assassinate the Darkstar for his attempted assassination on Princess Myrcella Baratheon.
Obara Sand will be portrayed by Keisha Castle-Hughes in Season 5 of Game Of Thrones.
